Series Overview

The Samsung 990 PRO SSD is built with Samsung’s latest V-NAND technology and a newly developed proprietary controller, delivering the highest performance currently available on the PCIe 4.0 interface. It is designed for demanding workloads such as high-end gaming, content creation, and professional productivity applications.

The 990 PRO achieves sequential read speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 6,900 MB/s. Random performance reaches up to 1,400K IOPS for reads and 1,550K IOPS for writes, representing up to a 55% improvement in random performance compared to the previous-generation 980 PRO SSD.

Power efficiency has been significantly improved through a new low-power controller architecture, delivering up to 50% better energy efficiency compared to the 980 PRO. For thermal reliability, the controller features a nickel coating, while the drive uses a heat-spreader label to enhance heat dissipation. Samsung’s Dynamic Thermal Guard technology further helps maintain optimal operating temperatures.

The Samsung 990 PRO SSD is available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities. The 1TB and 2TB models are scheduled for global availability starting in October, while the 4TB version will be released at a later date.
